Three (3) Israeli hostages were shot and killed by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Friday 15 December, 2023 while in fighting with Palestinian fighters known as Hamas in the Gaza district of Shijaiyah, as made known by the IDF.

According to nbcnews.com:
The three were “mistakenly” identified as a “threat,” an IDF spokesperson said on X at 1:17 p.m. ET on Friday. The grave mistake has since prompted an outpouring of anger and grief from Israelis.
