An X user (@TheoAbuAgada) has written a “letter” to 2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, requesting him to “provide a comprehensive account of the financial aspects of your campaign”.

This is coming following the affirmation of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by the Supreme Court on Thursday 26 October, 2023 after the dismissal of appeals by the 2023 Presidential candidates of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi.
The X user even went ahead to state the exact information the former Governor of Anambra State should provide in his response to this letter, they are:
- A comprehensive breakdown of all monetary donations received during your campaign.
- A detailed account of the expenditure incurred during the campaign, including but not limited to advertising, logistics, personnel, and administrative costs.
The X user concluded, “thank you and see you in 2027.”
The Letter:
Dear Mr. @PeterObi,Firstly, I would like to extend my congratulations to you on your participation in the last Presidential elections. The democratic process is an integral part of our nation’s growth, and it is commendable that you actively engaged in it.Now that elections are over and the Supreme Court has upheld the victory of Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the President of Nigeria, it is now time for accountability.As a concerned Nigerian deeply committed to transparency and accountability, I write this letter to kindly request that you provide a comprehensive account of the financial aspects of your campaign. Specifically, I am interested in obtaining detailed information regarding the money donated to your campaign and its subsequent expenditure.I believe that sharing this information will affirm your dedication to good governance and reinforce the principles of accountability, which are vital for the sustenance of our democracy. Moreover, it will serve as a precedent for other political candidates to follow suit and promote a culture of financial transparency in future electoral campaigns.I kindly request that you provide the following details in your response:1.
