Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel in the early hours of Saturday 7 October, 2023, killing several Israelis and taking many others hostage.

Governor Hochul is in Israel to “show solidarity with Israeli people” as they fight against Hamas to defend their country.

Earlier, President of the United States (US), Joe Biden, made his message clear to Israelis that, “you are not alone” in your fighting against Hamas.

Governor Hochul said: “Met with victims and families of hostages who experienced hell on earth in the community of Kfar Aza when Hamas attacked.

“Our hearts break for them. We pray for the safe return of those who have been taken hostage and will continue to do whatever we can to support them.

“More than ten school districts around the state received disturbing “swatting” threats today. These threats are false & I want to reassure parents that their children are safe.

“We are monitoring this situation closely & @nyspolice is working with local and federal partners.”
