With this result, Netherlands have reached the last eight of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023.
Jill Roord opened scoring for Netherlands early, in the 9th minute.
The Bayana Bayana fought back and were very close to levelling, however, their opponents defended strong.
After a mistake by South Africa goalkeeper, Kaylin Swart, in the second half, Netherlands sealed victory with the second in the 68th minute through Lineth Beerensteyn.
Netherlands will play against Spain in the quarter finals on Friday in Wellington, New Zealand.
