Switzerland needed just one point from the encounter to scale through as well as finish as Group A winners.

With this outcome, New Zealand emerged the first host nation to fail to qualify from the group stage.

It was a disappointing end to the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 for New Zealand, who had clinched a lone goal victory against Norway in the tournament’s opening match.
