He said, he had “to go to Ireland to make sure the Brits didn’t screw around”.
The US President was speaking at a Democratic Party event on Wednesday 10 May, 2023 in the city of New York.
Biden embarked on a four-day visit to Ireland in April to mark twenty-five (25) years since the Good Friday Agreement.
The trip also focused on Biden’s Irish ancestry, with most of his time spent in the Republic of Ireland.
Biden said: “I got to go back to Ireland for the, for the, the Irish Accords, to make sure they weren’t, the Brits didn’t screw around and Northern Ireland didn’t walk away from their commitments.”
Before leaving the US for the Capital, Belfast, Biden told newsmen, his priority was to “keep the peace” in Northern Ireland.
