A boat mishap which happened at Dandeji Village of Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State has claimed seventeen (17) lives.

Aliyu Dantani, Chairman of the Local Council, confirmed the unfortunate incident.
He said, 17 persons mostly boys and girls died while few passengers escaped as local divers continue to search for missing persons.
According to locals, the boat was loaded with forty (40) passengers (boys and girls) that went to fetch firewood at a bush close by before the boat capsized.
Dantani said the victims have been buried according to Islamic rites after being evacuated by local divers.
