Bayern Munich’s hopes of clinching an eleventh (11th) successive Bundesliga title suffered a huge blow as they fell to RB Leipzig at the Allianz Arena.
In the Bundesliga match on Saturday 20 May, 2023, Bayern Munich lost 1-3 to RB Leipzig despite taking the lead in the 25th minute through Serge Gnabry.
If Dortmund emerge victorious in the clash against Augsburg on Sunday, the Black and Yellow will climb two points above Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga table.
Konrad Laimer equalized in the 64th minute and two penalties from Christopher Nkunku and Dominik Szoboszlai in the 76th and 86th minutes respectively handed the visitors all three points.
Thomas Tuchel’s Bavarians will take a trip to Koln on the final day of the season, however, victories for Borussia Dortmund over Augsburg and Mainz next weekend will secure their first Bundesliga title which they last won in 2012.
With this result, RB Leipzig have secured a spot in next season’s Uefa Champions League as they are guaranteed to finish third following their impressive comeback at the Allianz Arena against the Bavarians.
Head Coach of RB Leipzig, Marco Rose, in his post-match comments, said: “Our goal was to secure third place here in Munich and it’s a great story. After equalising, we continued to believe that we could take all three points. We’re really happy!”
