13 killed as Israel strikes Gaza – children among the dead

Several strikes on Gaza by Israel has killed at least thirteen (13) people, encompassing three (3) members of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement.

The Palestinian Health Ministry revealed women and four children were among the dead.

Three of its leaders, their wives and some children were killed in the strikes, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement said.

According to Al Jazeera:

The Ministry of Health declared on Tuesday that at least 20 others were injured in the pre-dawn strikes in which more than 40 Israeli war planes carried out attacks for nearly two hours starting at 2am local time on Tuesday (23:00 GMT Monday).

Explosions targeted at residential apartments were heard in various areas of Gaza, further saying, most of the civilian victims are family members of the Islamic Jihad Commanders

The Group vowed to “avenge” the deaths.

The Israeli army said, the air attacks codenamed “Operation Shield and Arrow” targeted three Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement members who it claimed were responsible for recent rockets shot towards Israel.

“Assassinating the leadership in a treacherous operation will not bring security to the occupier, but instead greater resistance”, Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh said in a statement.

Hazem Qassem, spokesman of the Mikitant group, warned, Israel “bears responsibility for the repercussions of this escalation”.

Palestinian Red Crescent Society disclosed, its medics treated 145 injuries in Nablus on Tuesday after Israeli raid in the occupied West Bank town.

It further disclosed, a dozen people were shot with live fire as well as several others suffered tear gas inhalation.
