The Government of Oyo State has revealed, the Capital City of the Southwestern State, Ibadan, “was created in the 1820s”.

Ibadan remains the most populous city in Oyo State, and the third largest city in terms of population in Nigeria after Lagos and Kano States.
By geographical area, Ibadan is Nigeria’s largest city – accommodates over six (6) million people within its metropolitan area.
According to the Oyo State government, the city was “created as a war camp for warriors”.
The principal inhabitants of the city of Ibadan are the Yoruba people – encompassing other different communities like the Igbo, Hausa, Edo and so on.
Ibadan is a major Nigerian transport hub with freeways connecting with Lagos, Ijebu-Ode and Sagamu, Abeokuta, Oyo, Ogbomosho, Ado-Ekiti, Osogbo, Ilorin alongside other Southwestern regions; other cities towards the East.
The city of Ibadan was a fortress for “warriors coming from Oyo, Ife and Ijebu in the 1820s”.
The Oyo State government revealed, “Ibadan was created in the 1820s as a war camp for warriors coming from Oyo, Ife and Ijebu”.
