Bayern Munich will slug it out with Freiburg in the DFB Pokal match at the Allianz Arena in the city of Munich.
Here are six facts to know about the game according to fcbayern.com:
- Only previous cup clash a one-sided affair: This is only the second meeting between Bayern and Freiburg in the DFB Cup. In the previous encounter in the 2004/05 season – also at the quarter-final stage – the record cup winners (20 wins) breezed through 7-0 in the Black Forest.
- Freiburg still winless in Munich: Freiburg have visited the Bavarian state capital 23 times in all professional competitions, all of them in the Bundesliga, and have never won (20 defeats, three draws).
- Strong record against SCF: The German record champions are also clearly ahead in the recent head-to-head record. Freiburg have not beaten Bayern since a 2-1 success at home in May 2015. In the last 13 competitve meetings, the Munich men have come out on top 10 times, with the other three ending in a share of the spoils.
- Quarter-finals just an intermediate stop: Bayern have won their last 11 quarter-final ties in the competition, and in the last three they’ve gone all the way to the final.
- Bayern hungry for goals in cup: The Reds have scored at least four goals in their three cup matches this term against Viktoria Köln (5-0), FC Augsburg (5-2) and 1. FSV Mainz 05 (4-0).
- Müller on the way to another record: Bayern linchpin Thomas Müller has already beaten a number of records this season. With his 63rd appearance in the DFB Cup, he recently drew level with Bayern record holder Sepp Maier. The six-time cup winner now has the chance to become the outright record appearance maker against Freiburg.
