A south Carolina lawyer, Alex Murdaugh, has been sentenced to life in prison on Friday 3 March, 2023 for murdering his wife and son on their hunting estate.

The Judge, Clifton Newman, sentenced Murdaugh to consecutive life terms without parole for the June 7, 2021 murders of his son Paul and his wife Maggie.
Clifton Newman said: “I’m sure they come and visit you.”
Murdaugh answered: “All day and every night.”
The 54-year old Murdaugh further said: “I’m innocent. I would never hurt my wife Maggie. And I would never hurt my son Paw Paw.”
The Judge replied: “It might not have been you. It might have been the monster you become when you take 15, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 opioid pills.”
