Blast in Northern Afghanistan claims one life

An explosion has happened at an award ceremony for journalists in Afghanistan’s Northern province of Balkh, killing at least one person and wounding five other persons, a Taliban Police spokesperson revealed.

According to the Taliban-appointed spokesman for Balkh police, Mohammad Asif Waziri, the explosion took place at the Tabian Farhang centre in Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of the province, as journalists gathered for the award event at 11am on Saturday.

“A blast has taken placed in the second police district of Balkh,” Waziri disclosed.

He also confirmed the casualty toll, adding that three children were among the injured.
