Following the fire incident at the Akere Auto Spare Parts Market in Olodi-Apapa, Ajegunle, Lagos State, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has assured everyone affected will be provided with the “necessary support and assistance”.
The fire incident at the market which Governor Sanwo-Olu describes as “sad and unfortunate” razed shops and destroyed properties worth several millions.
“I have asked the Commissoner of Police to investigate and tighten security around marketplaces”, Governor Sanwo-Olu revealed.
The Lagos State number one citizen said: “My heart goes out to all the victims of the Akere Auto Parts Market fire. We will work together to ensure everyone affected is provided with the necessary support and assistance.
“This is a sad and unfortunate incident and politicizing the sufferings of people is reprehensible.
“I commiserate with the family of the deceased who was unfortunately close to the scene of the incident.
“I thank the council chairman, Hon. Fatai Ayoola, and the market leader, Mr. Izuchukwu Uba who toured the market with me while I spoke to affected traders.
“I have asked the Commissoner of Police to investigate and tighten security around marketplaces.
“Lagos serves as a welcoming home to all, and through collaborative efforts, we have achieved remarkable progress serving as a blueprint for growth and development across Nigeria.
“The state’s Emergency Response Team will remain at the site while the area is cleared of rubbles and rebuilding efforts begin.
“This city’s foundation is rooted in unity and teamwork. Lets continue to build together and shun those who seek to divide us.”
