The Best FIFA Football Awards 2022: Date, Time, Venue and Categories

The Best FIFA Football Awards are almost upon us, as superstars from across the globe look to be crowned across a range of illustrious categories.

Players who impressed during the relevant qualifying periods have been whittled down to three outstanding candidates across seven categories, while selections will be made for the FIFA FIFPRO Men’s and Women’s World 11s. Three fans or groups of fans have been nominated for the FIFA Fan Award, and the winner of the FIFA Fair Play Award will also be announced.

This year will be the seventh The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony to take place since its inception in 2016, with the likes of Lionel Messi, Manuel Neuer and Megan Rapinoe all successful in recent years.

Date and Time

The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony will start at 21:00 CET / 20:00 GMT / 15:00 ET / 12:00 PT on 27 February 2023.

Venue

Paris will host The Best FIFA Football Awards after last year’s virtual event which took place in FIFA’s Zurich headquarters due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Categories

The awards are split into a total of nine categories on the night. The awards are as follows.

  1. The Best FIFA Men’s Player: Karim Benzema, Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi
  2. The Best FIFA Women’s Player: Beth Mead, Alex Morgan, Alexia Putellas
  3. The Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper: Yassine Bounou, Thibaut Courtois, Emiliano Martinez
  4. The Best FIFA Women’s Goalkeeper: Ann-Katrin Berger, Mary Earps, Christiane Endler
  5. The Best FIFA Men’s Coach: Carlo Ancelotti, Pep Guardiola, Lionel Scaloni
  6. The Best FIFA Women’s Coach: Sonia Bompastor, Pia Sundhage, Sarina Wiegman
  7. The FIFA Puskas Award: Marcin Oleksy, Dimitri Payet, Richarlison
  8. The FIFA Fair Play Award: Fair play is a fundamental part of the game of football. It represents the positive benefits of playing by the rules, using common sense and respecting team-mates, opponents, match officials and/or fans. The Award is bestowed on a player, a coach, a team, a match official, an individual fan or a fan group in recognition of exemplary fair play behaviour, either on the pitch or in relation to an official football match, including matches in amateur leagues, during the period from September 2021 to December 2022
