Revival: Part 6 – Fresh Oil – ‘I shall be anointed with fresh oil’

Memory Verse: Psalm 92:10 – “But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil.”

Texts: 1 Samuel 16:13 – “Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.”

1 Kings 1:39 – “And Zadok the priest took an horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon. And they blew the trumpet; and all the people said, God save king Solomon.”

Introduction: In the scripture, Oil is a symbol of the Holy Spirit. Revival from heaven is usually preceded by a release of fresh oil. There is revival whenever fresh oil is released, however, whenever it is sidelined, the reverse is the case.

Revival is a Ministry of the Holy Spirit which brings about exceptional outcomes. It is what God blesses his own people with not those who relegate Him to the outside of their lives.

Those qualified for Fresh Oil

  1. Consecrated Life: Exodus 28:3 – “And thou shalt speak unto all that are wise hearted, whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron’s garments to consecrate him, that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office.”
  2. Converted Soul: Romans 8:9 – “But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.”
  3. Those who live like Christ: 1 Peter 4:14 – “If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.”
  4. Life of Holiness: 2 Corinthians 3:3 – “Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.”
  5. Contrite and Humble Life: Isaiah 57:15 – “For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.”

What to do to get Fresh Oil
  1. Get close to God through His word. Read 2 Corinthians 3:18
  2. Create time for God. Read 2 Timothy 2:20-21
  3. Find your way back to Jesus
  4. Confess and Forsake your sins. Proverbs 28:13 – “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.” Read also 2 Corinthians 7:1, 1 John 1:9
Conclusion: Fresh Oil comes upon those who ask and seek for it. It comes on a life filled with righteousness, humility and brokenness. Sin is a huge barrier that prevents us from getting Fresh Oil from God. When released, it empowers and strengthens us in diverse areas of our lives.
