According to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), there is a “fake press release” that says “President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the reissuance and release of old ₦500 and ₦1,000 notes as legal tender in the country”.

The Nigerian Apex Bank also said via a Press Release, it is “working with the law enforcement agencies to investigate, apprehend and prosecute the purveyors of this fake news”.
“Please, ignore this fake news”, the CBN pleads with Nigerians, affirming “CBN Sticks to Presidential Directive to Reissue only 200 Naira Old Banknotes”.
