Newcastle United defeated Southampton 2-1 right inside the St. James’Park in the semi final second-leg match of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday 31 January, 2023, to reach the final of the tournament.

This is Newcastle United’s first League Cup final since 1976, winning the Saints 3-1 on aggregate.
Sean Longstaff netted twice to help Eddie Howe’s side clinch the home win to progress.

Longstaff opened scoring early for the hosts, in the 5th minute, and went on to extend the lead in the 21st minute.
Southampton pulled one back in the 29th minute through Che Adams.

For an awful tackle on Samuel Edozie, Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes was shown a straight red card.
