Nick Bontis, Canada Soccer President, has resigned amid an ongoing labour disagreement between the governing body and the men’s and women’s national teams.

If their demands over funding cuts and pay inequality are not met, the women’s side said they will boycott a team camp in April.
They cancelled a planned strike earlier this month due to legal action threats by Canada Soccer (CSA).
Canada men’s team went on strike in June 2022 after accusing CSA of “disrespect” over World Cup money and have said they “wholeheartedly support” the women’s team.
Both national teams previously called for a change in leadership of the CSA.
Via a statement making his resignation known, Bontis said, he is of the belief that both national sides will put pen to paper for “an historic collective bargaining agreement”.
He further said: “Once signed, it will be a landmark deal that will set our nation apart from virtually every other Fifa member association.
“While I have been one of the biggest proponents of equalising the competitive performance environment for our women’s national team, I will unfortunately not be leading this organisation when it happens.
“I acknowledge that this moment requires change. “
