US School Shooting: Six-year old pupil shoots teacher

A pupil, six-year old, shot and wounded a Virginia teacher during an altercation on Friday inside a first-grade classroom, Police and school officials in the independent city of Newport News revealed.

According to Police, the shooting happened at the Richneck Elementary School, and no students were injured in the incident.

The teacher, a female in her 30s, sustained life-threatening injuries.

Newport News Police Chief, Steve Drew, disclosed to newsmen that her condition had improved later the same day.

Police also said, the child had a handgun in the classroom and that they had taken the pupil into custody.

Drew revealed to newsmen: “We did not have a situation where someone was going around the school shooting.


“We have a situation in one particular location where a gunshot was fired.”

Drew concluded, the shooting was not an accident.

According to Newport News Public School on Facebook:

There has been a shooting incident at Richneck Elementary School. A teacher was injured and transported to a local hospital. All of the students are safe. The perpetrator is in police custody.

The Police Department and school division leaders are onsite and actively investigating.

Parent and student reunification is taking place at the Richneck gym door. Parents and guardians must present a picture ID to pick up their child.
