Peter Obi, the 2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), “sincerely congratulate” Dr. Ije Akunyili on her appointment as the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Jersey City Medical Center, a US Hospital.

Dr. Ije Akunyili’s appointment makes her the first Nigerian to clinch such position in a hospital in the United States (US).
She is the daughter of late former Nigerian Professor, Dora Akunyili.
Dr. Dora Akunyili was the former Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) from 2001 to 2008.
Peter Obi said, Nigerians “need the right environment to achieve their fullest potentials”.
He wrote: “I sincerely congratulate my dear sister, Dr. Ije Akunyili, on being the first Nigerian to be appointed as the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in the USA. Such shows that nothing is intrinsically wrong with Nigerians.
“We only need the right environment for our people to achieve their fullest potentials. Let’s take back our country.”
