According to the Lagos State Government, “the Rice Mill has the capacity to produce 2.8 million bags of 50kg of rice yearly while generating 1,500 direct jobs and 254,000 indirect jobs.
“The production capacity of the Rice Mill in Imota will make it the largest in the sub-saharan Africa and third largest in the world.”
The Imota Rice Mill is 22 hectares large, with the Mill itself taking a space of 8.5 hectares. It was officially commissioned on Monday 23 January, 2023 by President Muhammadu Buhari and the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
To ensure the facilitation of a seamless supply of input for the Imota Rice Mill, Lagos State will have to strengthen ties with fellow Nigerian states like Sokoto, Benue, Kwara, Borno and Kebbi, to meet the paddy requirement for the Mill.
