After holding talks with Everton’s hierarchy, Sean Dyche and former Leeds United boss, Marcelo Bielsa, were the two contenders.
The Toffees expect their new manager to be in position before the weekend.
Marcelo Bielsa was initially seen to be the favoured choice of Farhad Moshiri, owner of Everton, however, Dyche, 51, is now in front.
67-year old Bielsa expressed reservations about taking charge of the club in mid-season as well as whether the squad will fit his physically demanding and high-intensity pattern.
Everton parted ways with Frank Lampard following the Toffees 0-2 defeat to West Ham United at the London Stadium.
