A woman was allegedly assaulted by the 39-year old Brazil defender.
Alves inappropriately laid his hand on the woman in a nightclub in Barcelona, Spain, in December.
The former Catalans full-back has denied the allegation, and was taken into custody and was questioned by a Judge in Barcelona on Friday.
Subsequently, Alves’ contract was terminated by his club Mexican side Pumas UNAM, with immediate effect.
Leopoldo Silva, Pumas Sporting President, said, “The club reiterates its commitment to not tolerate acts by any member, whoever they may be, that go against the club’s spirit and its values.
“We cannot allow the conduct of one person to damage our work philosophy, which has been an example throughout history.”
