While the English Premier League was going on break for the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar, Spanish football manager extended his contract with the Citizens to 2025.

Since Guardiola became head coach of Manchester City in 2016, the club has clinched nine major trophies, however, the club is yet to lift the Uefa Champions League trophy.

The Citizens came close to winning the Uefa Champions League 2021 title, but fell to another English Premier League club, Chelsea, in the final.

Guardiola said: “It’s not the only one but I admit it’s the trophy we want and my period here will not be complete if we don’t win it.

“I will do everything in the time we have together but I’d say the same before. It’s the trophy we don’t have and we’ll try to do it. I have the feeling they’ll get it sooner or later.”

Guardiola did not forget to hail his striker Julian Alvarez alongside his Argentina teammates, Lionel Messi, Nicolas Otamendi and the entire team, for their great achievements in the just concluded FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar, where the South American side defeated France on penalties 4-2 in the final to win the trophy.

Guardiola said: “We’re delighted for Julian, he played a lot, his contribution was amazing for the team.

“We have a world champion in our team. We are incredibly happy for him. Congratulations to him and Otamendi, and personally to Messi. To Argentina, well deserved.”
