The select committee of the House of Representatives, will go ahead and seek a never before experienced charge of insurrection against a former president of the United States, a US media reports.
The panel will be expected to announce its final report next week.
On 6 January, 2021, supporters of former US President Donald Trump, stormed Congress in a bid to put a stop to Joe Biden’s certification as president.
Trump’s role in the demonstrations at the Capitol is being investigated by the Justice Department.
Trump has denied any wrongdoing.
On Friday, Trump’s spokesman, Steven Cheung, in a statement said: “The January 6th un-Select Committee held show trials by Never Trump partisans who are a stain on this country’s history.”
