D’Banj was taken into custody on Tuesday, after the ICPC closed in on him, forcing him to surrender at the Headquarters of the Agency in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria.
The musician is accused of fraudulently diverting some funds set aside for the N-Power project by the Nigerian government.
The N-Power Project is an empowerment programme set up by the government of Nigeria to tackle youth unemployment and heighten social development.
Investigators allege that the 42-year old entertainer in conjunction with some government officials introduced some ghost beneficiaries into the scheme’s payroll.
The stipends paid to those ghost beneficiaries were subsequently paid to accounts later allegedly linked to the singer.
D’Banj, on reaching the Agency’s office, was interrogated and detained later and his plea for administrative bail was turned down by officials.
It was learnt that ICPC might take the case to court on Wednesday with the intention to obtain an extended remand order to enable the Agency complete its investigation before charging the 2007 MTV Europe Music Award winner to court.
