Marathon runners Alice Jepkemboi Kimutai and Johnstone Kibet Maiyo have been banned for three years, and sprinter Mark Otieno for two by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU).

29-year old Otieno, a three-time national 100m champion, tested positive for the banned anabolic steroid Methasterone just moments before the 100m Heats game at the Tokyo Olympics Games, meaning he was not allowed to compete.

He will have his ban backdated from the Games and end in July 2023.

Ban for Kimutai, who tested positive for the male hormone testosterone, began on 16 November.

Maiyo’s ban began on 20 July for returning a positive test for erythropoietin (EPO).

Ababu Namwamba, Kenya’s Minister of Sport, announced they intended to criminalize doping in athletics with the aim to reduce the number of cases in the sport.
