On a beautiful night, 21-year old Goncalo Ramos, who has no international goal to his name, was preferred to five-time Ballon d’Or winner, Cristiano Ronaldo, in the FIFA World Cup 2022 match between Portugal and Switzerland at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar.
Ramos scored a hat-trick for Portugal as the Selection of the Shields whitewashed Switzerland by six goals to one to cruise into the quarter finals of the tournament.
Portugal will now lock horns with Morocco, who stunned Spain on penalties 3-0 earlier, in the last eight of the tournament.

Ramos netted his first goal for Portugal and the opener of the encounter in the 17th minute, Pepe beautifully converted Bruno Fernandes’ corner to make it two for Portugal in the 33rd minute.
Ramos and Raphael Guerreiro made it three and four for Fernando Santos’ side in the 51st and 55th minutes respectively.
In the 58th minute, Switzerland pulled one back through Manuel Akanji.
Ramos completed his hat-trick and the fifth goal for Portugal in the 67th minute and late substitute Rafael Leao sealed victory with the sixth goal in the 2nd minute of additional time.
