Calabar Carnival 2022: Seven dead, several injured as car runs into crowd

Seven have been confirmed dead by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) at the 2022 Calabar Carnival, after a car ran into a crowd at the event in Cross River State.

Report from NAN says Sector Commander of the Corps, Maikano Hassan, disclosed the unfortunate incident happened on Tuesday during the Bikers’ event in the Bobobiri area of the State.

The Calabar Carnival 2022 kicked off on Tuesday with 14 States on ground to showcase their different rich culture.

He revealed a total of 29 people sustained different degrees of injury – 21 adult males, three women and five children.

Governor of Cross River State, Ben Ayade, alongside other influential and important personalities were at the venue for the carnival before the sad incident occurred.

The injured persons have been taken to hospitals for medical attention as the activities of the day were placed on suspension.

The dead bodies have been deposited at the morgue in Calabar.

Governor Ayade has sent his condolences to the families that lost their loved ones at the Carnival and has assured the driver responsible for unfortunate incident will be made to face the law.
