Adeleke contested and clinched victory under the umbrella party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), beating his closest opponent, former Governor of the State, Adegboyega Oyetola.
The PDP governorship candidate, Ademola Adeleke, was announced winner of the July 16 governorship election in Osun State by the electoral body of Nigeria, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Adeleke accumulated a total of 403,371 votes, discomfiting Oyetola, who accumulated a total of 375,027 votes.
In a brilliant ceremony, which took place at the Osogbo City Stadium, the new Governor, Ademola Adeleke, alongside his Deputy, Kola Adewusi, took the oath of office and allegiance.
Chief Judge of Osun State, Adepele Ojo, administered the oath of office for both the Governor and his Deputy.
Very top ranking members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) attended the swearing in ceremony. They are: the 2023 presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, and his running mate, who is the Governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa.
Others include: Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Emmanuel Udom; Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki; Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal; Governor of Bayelsa State, Duoye Diri; former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose; Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; among others.

The PDP tweeted: “Senator @AAdeleke_01 of the @OfficialPDPNig has been sworn-in as the 6th elected Governor of Osun State. Senator Adeleke defeated @OfficialAPCNg Governor @GboyegaOyetola in the July 16 Guber election. In February 2023, we shall #RecoverNigeria with @atiku and @IAOkowa.”
