Photos 👇 African Champions, Senegal, did not hesitate to tear Qatar into shreds 3-1 in the FIFA World Cup 2022 encounter at the Al Thumama Stadium in Doha, Qatar on Friday 25 November after losing by two goals to nothing to Netherlands in their opener match of the tournament.
Hosts, Qatar, has become the first nation to be eliminated from the FIFA World Cup 2022 after the loss to the Teranga Lions.
Boulaye Dia opened scoring for Senegal four minutes before halftime, former Bristol City striker Famara Diedhiou made it two for the African side in just three minutes into the second half.
Qatar pulled one back with Mohammed Muntari’s forceful header in the 78th minute which Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy could do absolutely nothing about, as they continue to seek to level up the scores.
However, Bamba Dieng sealed win for the Lions of Teranga in the 84th minute to condemn their Asian opponent to their second consecutive defeat of the FIFA World Cup 2022 and dump them at the bottom of the Group with zero point.
Qatar Spanish head coach, Felix Sanchez, in his post-match comments, said: “Our goal was to be competitive. We have been working for so many months to be able to give a good performance.
“But sometimes the match does not play out as you expect. It also depends on the opponents’ performance. We didn’t play at our top level.
“We are aware of how tough this competition is. We wanted to go far but we know we had limitations as a country.
“It’s a small country, not a very large population. The local league is not a very competitive one.
“It’s our first time at the World Cup. If we can take part again, that would be great. It’s always useful to get more experience.”
