Iran lost by a lone goal to the United States of America (USA) in their last Group B match at the Al Thumama Stadium after Chelsea forward Christian Pulisic scored for the American side in the 38th minute of play.

The USA and England made it through to the last-16 of the tournament, however, Iran and Wales got kicked out.

According to videos released, people were seen dancing in the streets and honking car horns in Tehran and several other cities across the country on Tuesday night.

Many Iranians who see the country’s national football team in Qatar as a representation of the Islamic Republic, refused to give their support to the team.

The players refused to sing their national anthem in their opener match against England which they lost 6-2, however, they did sing at the match against Wales in which they comfortably defeated the Welsh side by two goals to nothing.

The protests in Iran started 10 weeks ago after the death of a 22-year old woman, Mahsa Amini, who died in the custody of Morality Police in Tehran for allegedly violating the strict rule which requires women to cover their hair with a hijab.
