Photos ๐ The presidential flagbearer of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has assured, if handed the “opportunity”, he will “increase funds for the arts because it is essential”.
The PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, a top contender, has two other top contenders to lock horns with in the 2023 presidential election – the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu; and the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as well as other candidates from other parties.
Atiku made these campaign promises during an unusual roundtable conversation with stakeholders of the Creative, Cultural and Innovative Industry (CCI) of Nigeria in Lagos.
The main aim of the roundtable conversation with the CCI was to buttress the Entertainment Industry of Nigeria alongside create more unifying support to promote creative expression.
The PDP presidential candidate said: โI commend the presentations so far, I understand your challenges which I am also facing because I own a television and radio station. I face the same problem of access to water and electricity as well as bad roads, so I want you to regard me as one of you.
โThe way forward is to increase funds for the arts and liberalise the process of acquiring that fund. If you give me the opportunity, I would do it because it is essential.
โI reject direct CBN intervention and encourage the private sector to be part of this, government cannot develop all the funds needed.
โI look forward to a close collaboration with you on how we can develop the sector and exploit its potential. It is a multi-billion income-creating sector.โ
