Queen Elizabeth II dies at 96: World bids farewell to Britain’s longest-serving monarch

Queen Elizabeth II who died at the age of 96 at her Balmoral Castle in Scotland has been buried alongside her late husband, Prince Philip, after a state funeral and poignant chapel service – as the nation and the world bid a final farewell to Britain’s longest-serving monarch.

Buckingham Palace said, the Queen was  laid to rest at the King George VI Memorial Chapel in the grounds of Windsor Castle following a private burial on Monday evening.

It followed an emotional day for grieving Royal Family members, with people in tens of thousands lining the streets to catch a glimpse of the procession carrying the Queen’s coffin.

King Charles III looked close to tears during the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, his mother, at Westminster Abbey, where world leaders – including Joe Biden, President of the United States (US), Emmanuel Macron, President of France and Prime Minister Liz Truss – were among the 2,000 strong congregation.

Inside Westminster Abbey, King Charles III and the Queen Consort, Camilla, walked right behind the coffin.

Archbishop of Canterbury, told Mourners while delivering the sermon, “grief” felt around the world over the Queen’s death “arises from her abundant life and loving service”.

The Most Reverend Justin Welby, said, “She was joyful, present to so many, touching a multitude of lives.


“People of loving service are rare in any walk of life. Leaders of loving service are still rarer.


“Her late Majesty’s broadcast during the COVID lockdown ended with ‘We will meet again’, words of hope from a song of Vera Lynn.”

He added: “All who follow the Queen’s example, and inspiration of trust and faith in God, can with her say: ‘We will meet again’.”
