The Drivers’ Patrol Team of Dangote Group, in a fresh action to weed out corrupt drivers who involve themselves in illegal haulage activities coupled with others and constituted themselves as a threat to other road users, has successfully arrested several drivers and handed them over to relevant authorities.
Recently, the management of Dangote, pleaded for the assistance of members of the public in nabbing those truck drivers who are engaging in illegal haulage activities.
The Group, in addition, declared an enticing monetary prize for any member of the public who releases information that would lead to the apprehension of such corrupt persons by law enforcement agents.
Recently, among several successful arrests, the Team, in the North Central Zone of the country, arrested both a driver and his truck carrying fully loaded illegal haulage of timber and handed them to the Police.
The driver was later charged to a Magistrate Court in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, for criminal breach of trust where he pleaded guilty.
He was sentenced to four months of incarceration in a correctional centre.
In a statement the Dangote Industries Limited issued, and signed by Mr Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding & Communications Officer, the Company said: “The Management of Dangote Industries Limited wishes to solicit the assistance of the general public in the fight to rid the organisation of illegal haulage activities being perpetrated by some unscrupulous persons.”
The management of Dangote went ahead to make things clear on the items that its over 10,000 trucks operating across the country and the neighbouring West African countries conveys.
“Dangote Trucks are permitted to transport only the following materials: Dangote Cement Plc – Dangote Cement, Limestone, High-Grade Gypsum and Coal; Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc- Dangote Sugar; NASCON Allied Industries Plc – Dangote Salt & DanQ Seasoning; and Dangote Packaging Limited – Bags,” it stated.
The statement added: “We hereby alert the public to report any suspected Dangote Truck driver involved in illegal haulage supported with credible evidence of a such act.”
