Obidients, as Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi’s supporters are called, had converged for the one-million march at the Pastoral Center, Abakaliki, to support the LP flag bearer.
Unexpectedly, Policemen in their hundreds stormed the place and scattered the gathering with teargas.
Steve Ugama, an Obidient, who spoke with reporters, disclosed, about five of his fellow Obidients were arrested by the Police.
He disclosed: “This is inhuman and undemocratic. We have gathered here this morning for our peaceful March, all of a sudden, the police came and started tear-gassing us and arresting our people.
“They said we can’t hold the march, because Governor David Umahi asked them to stop us, that we can’t hold it. About four or our colleague have been arrested. We need help here.”
• Really?! So, to support whoever I want to support is now against the law?! What are they afraid of? 🤔
