FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup: Nigeria 1-0 South Korea – Falconets cruise into knockout, Onyenezide score winner

The U-20 National Women’s football team of Nigeria (the Falconets) discomfited South Korea by a lone goal on Sunday in their second Group C match of the ongoing FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, being hosted in Costa Rica.

The win which took place right inside the Estadio Alajuela Morera Soto Stadium, sent the Falconets into the knockout stages of the tournament with a the final Group game unplayed against Canada.

In the first encounter of Nigeria, the Falconets emerged victorious against France by a lone goal as South Korea cruised past Canada by two goals to nothing.

The Falconets kicked off the game well with beautiful passes, however, ended the first 45 minutes without a goal.

Nigeria had a higher ball possession and dominated well in the second half.

Esther Onyenezide netted the only goal of the game and the winner for Nigeria in the 83rd minute to send the team into the knockout rounds.

Nigeria will lock horns with Canada in their last Group C match on August 19.

The FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica, South America, which started on August 10 will end on August 28, 2022.
