2023 Elections: ‘ASUU strike has lingered for far too long, it’s unacceptable that FGN would allow such’ – Peter Obi

Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has bared his mind against the Nigerian government for allowing the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike to ‘linger for far too long’.

After a warning striker of six months, ASUU, a body that covers all lecturers in Nigerian Universities, has declared a full strike.

LP Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, said: “Our position is that ASUU strike has lingered for far too long. It is unconscionable, worrisome and unacceptable that Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) would allow such an industrial action to become almost intractable to the detriment of our students.

“It’s time for FGN to engage in collaborative negotiations with ASUU, and in good faith.”

Obi, however, believes there will be a positive turnaround after governors decided to intervene into the matter.

He said: “It’s gratifying that our governors have undertaken to mediate on the lingering ASUU strike.

“This is propitious and a remarkable show of leadership. Hopefully, such direct constructive engagement will bring this strike to an end soonest.”
